Okay, so last week Owen went to have lunch with Molly at school ... Molly loves to have us come for lunch! Caleb - not so much. Unfortunately, when Caleb was younger (kindergarten, 1st/2nd grade), I didn't even realize parents could have lunch at school with their kids (I don't remember parents coming to lunch when I was a kid). By the time I realized we could, Caleb wasn't interested in having us eat lunch with him & his friends. Luckily, Molly started school and is still super excited for us to join her at lunchtime. :) So after lunch with Molly last week, Owen asked Caleb again about having lunch with him ... he even said he would bring whatever Caleb wanted (bacon cheeseburger, pizza, etc.) but to no avail. Then they got on the subject of who Caleb sits with at lunch. Turns out this just changed in the last couple of weeks. He used to sit with one group of friends until girls started sitting at the table. Apparently, there are a few 5th grade "couples" that now sit together at lunch. Actually, it's three couples and another boy who obviously doesn't mind being the seventh wheel. They aren't even really couples ... just boys & girls who like each other. But Caleb still finds girls annoying - for the most part - so he just moved on to a girl-free table with another group of friends.
The same night that this came up, we had family dinner night at Pizza Pro (our fave restaurant). :) Molly starts to tell Owen about how she was "dating" a little boy, but then she "broke up" with him because he was "dating five other girls." What??? I happen to know the little boy she's talking about, which made it even more amusing. (Really, him???) We've heard the boyfriend talk from Molly before and told her she's too little for all that. But girls will be girls! I remember when Caleb came home on the bus in kindergarten and asked me what a "crush" was ... now Molly's already dating, being cheated on and breaking up with boys in 1st grade! She does watch the tween Disney shows like Wizards of Waverly Place & Good Luck Charlie (pretty entertaining, I must admit) so I could blame TV ... but I was chasing boys on the playground at Molly's age and calling boys by the time I was Caleb's age. And I turned out fine. So I won't worry about Molly - yet. Right now I'm just happy that Caleb has no interest in sitting at the couples' table because who knows how long that will last!
